Real. Strong. Women.

The phrase "real, strong women" defines what it means to be a part of Alpha Chi Omega.

Being a real strong woman is about empowering each other to focus on our values of academic achievement, character, leadership, financial responsibility, and personal development.

We encourage each of our sisters to fearlessly become the best version of herself. Through the triumphs and the pitfalls, our sisters are always by our side.

history

Alpha Chi Omega was founded on October 15, 1885, at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana. Professor James Hamilton Howe, Dean of the Music School, invited seven young women from the school to attend a meeting for the purpose of forming a society. The first appearance of the seven founders - Anna Allen, Olive Burnett, Bertha Deniston, Amy DuBois, Nellie Gamble, Bessie Grooms and Estelle Leonard was in Meharry Hall, wearing scarlet and olive green ribbon streamers attached to their dresses.

Alpha Chi Omega's Founders chose "Alpha" the first letter of the Greek alphabet, because they were forming the first musical fraternity. Since they thought they might also be founding the last such fraternity, "Omega" seemed appropriate. "Kai" meaning "and" was added to form the beginning and the end. "Kai" was later changed to "Chi".

Our chapter, Zeta Chi, was founded at Muhlenberg College on October 27, 1984 and has continuously grown to be a successful and important force on campus.

SYMPHONY

Celia McClure (Delta, Allegheny College) wrote The Symphony of Alpha Chi Omega in 1912. It was adopted as our official symphony in 1914 because it reflects our tradition of harmony.
